Taste Japan’s Regional Teas with an Expert in Minamiyamashiro

Fairfield by Marriott Kyoto Minamiyamashiro invites hotel guests to a special tea tasting event as part of the Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki Project. Held for the 8th time, this experience celebrates freshly harvested shincha and the unique terroirs of Japan’s tea regions.

Led by Japanese Tea Instructor Mika Hasegawa, guests will taste and compare three distinct teas: Sencha from Minamiyamashiro, kama-iri (pan-fried tea) from Miyazaki, and fukamushi-cha (deep-steamed tea) from Kagoshima. Each offers a unique flavour profile shaped by regional cultivation and processing methods.

Minamiyamashiro, Kyoto’s only village and a key producer of premium Uji tea, sets the perfect backdrop with its scenic mountain tea fields and lively roadside station, Ocha no Kyoto.

This guided, small-group tasting is an intimate opportunity to explore Japan’s rich tea culture with expert insights in a relaxed setting.
